WHAT IS STEPPING?

Stepping is a high-energy African American percussive dance tradition that combines:

  • Powerful stomping
  • Synchronized rhythms
  • Body percussion

Rooted in the traditions of historically Black fraternities and sororities, Stepping is more than movement: it is culture, history, and community. It’s a dynamic form of storytelling and collective expression—built on pride, unity, discipline, and musicality.
